PLANS IN THE BATHROOM

The bathroom is is one of the rooms that we wan't to get fully phase-one finished asap. We decided to keep the budget really low to help us save up for a big overhaul down the line so we can't change much - I think it's a good way for us to get going though - knowing that we can't blow the budget makes it so much easier to make decisions and move forward!

Here's what we started with:

So many squares! So much blue grout!

Before we moved in we changed the whirlpool bath for a regular one with a new mixer tap (I read some reports on the internet about them not being the safest or cleanest and freaked myself out!)

Then we stripped the wall paper using the 'pull off the top layer and spray and scrape the bottom one' method (I used this wallpaper stripper in a spray bottle with warm water and it worked really well).

The girls discovered a cow holding a piece of paper in it's mouth (can you see it?) - Misha told me I'm not allowed to paint over it - but her days are numbered...sorry Milky.

Because of the slatted cupboard door and pedestal basin we're going for a clean, fresh and classic vibe - maybe a little  more traditional than the other rooms of the house. We're going to paint the tiles white and we're planning on dark grey for the walls (like this or this). The only other big changes in here will be to paint the trim, get some new blinds, upgrade the shelves in the cupboard and replace the tap for the sink.

We'd love to go all out subway, honeycomb, shiny spa one day (something like this or this) but because changes in here will only be cosmetic - they wont have a big impact on how we use the room or how well it functions - a big bathroom re-do is a few years away. So for now we want to spend a bit of money making this room work for now, but not go crazy - because we know one day we will be starting all over again.

Right now our check list looks like this:
  • install new bath and mixer tap
  • make and paint a panel for the bath
  • change the sink tap
  • remove the wall paper
  • paint the trim and doors white
  • prep and paint the walls
  • paint the tiles
  • change the light
  • upgrade the shelves in the cupboard
  • paint the floor? or just the grout?
  • add some blinds
  • add a mirror and shelf above the sink
Anyone else holding off on a big bathroom or kitchen reno with a 'phase-one'? Is it just me or is it hard for to resist the urge to break out the hammer - and stick to using what you have and saving for what you really want?
